One of the best things about yoga (if not THE best), is that after each practice, you really do grow and you really do transcend into a higher self. You become enlightened by your own abilities and the miracles of your amazing body. You learn, you discover a lot about yourself, and you gain a great deal of humility. When all of this radiates from ourselves, we put peace into our lives and into the lives of those around us.

CULTIVATING YOUR STRENGTH

Sometimes…often…most of the time…the hardest part is always getting on the mat, maybe even a drag. As much as we don’t like it, there are and will be times when meeting our practice will be a challenge. Even DURING our practice, those feelings come up.

“OMgah…I’m too fucking tired for this.”

“What did I get myself into? This is starting off to be a hard class already.”

“I have so much to do, so many things to be completed…why am I here?”

“Well, look at this fucking girl with the perfect body in those lulu’s.”

“This pose makes me have rolls…”

“My quads are burning. Give me a break. I’m going to die.”

“My arms…my arms, damn it! My armsssss! Free me!”

It’s when we have thoughts like these, we practice the silencing of the mind. It’s okay to have these thoughts, but then detach from them. It’s like coming into a posture- fidgeting, adjusting, finding your edge in an asana, and then eventually finding stillness and contentment in it. When we have that, we can connect with the breath again. When we become intimate with the breath, then peace in posture follows; maybe the struggle, the sensation of burning muscles subside, and we welcome growth.

Stick with it. Surrender to the practice. Trust your body. Cultivate your strength! Listen to your body- be okay with having to modify if needed! Don’t push yourself through fatigue because please practice each posture with integrity, never sacrificing safety to satisfy the ego. At the same time, be okay with listening to that inner voice telling you that you can get a little deeper into the pose because YOU CAN! Deepening of the posture doesn’t have to mean going into a more advanced variation; maybe deepening the posture means staying in it for five or ten more seconds. You can. You always can.

There’s a reason we always come back to the mat, so remember that. You are stronger than you tell yourself. Really :)

Namaste.

People say it gets easier every day; that’s a lie. There will be days that are better and days that are harder because life is balance…and I guess, it makes finding inner strength even more glorious because you just never know when and where you will find it.

MACHINE WASHABLE

If you were a piece of garment, what would your care label say?

What instructions would you have, to be the best version of yourself, to be the best that you can be? How would those instructions apply to your yoga practice and how would those steps apply to each yoga asana? How would you bring those instructions off the mat and into your life, to cultivate it and to nourish it?

And so, I take this opportunity to share with you my care label (off the bat with some and maybe more thought into others):

- Appropriate preparations and warm ups result in extreme flexibility.
- Needs occasional self-reminders to realize that I am enough.
- Right side of body is tighter than the left side, and may need extra time to find stillness.
- Strong legs and amazing lower body strength, bring it.
- Upper body strength isn’t weak; there are no weak body parts, just body parts that have louder voices to heed. Please listen to them.
- The ego creeps in sometimes and that’s normal and okay, just keep brushing it off the mat.
- A little push, a little oomph is needed to open up sometimes.
- Ecstatic toes and enthusiastic fingers all the time! Feel free to share my energy.
- Feeds off the energy of others.
- Sucker for warriors/Virabhadrasanas.
- Always willing to be at the service of others.
- Welcome modifications, and welcome magic!
- Binds are a favorite.
- Sometimes, a mental note to breathe is needed.
- Machine washable: each practice, each asana, each day, each moment, each breath, is a new journey every time, and so the slate is cleaned every time.

That is all I can think of right now, but I invite you and I encourage you to look within and acknowledge yourself. Meet your best and truest self this very moment. You are so full of light! I would love to know what your care label would say (long or short, detailed or brief)! And even if you didn’t share, it would be an honor to know that you just took the time to make yourself aware of yourself.

Namaste, sweet souls.

And I still don’t understand why someone would want to start practicing yoga, but not want to get “muscular.”
adsklfnawieruhaksjf come on, people. Look at the magnificence and strength. How is that NOT beautiful AND sexy? Besides, all yogi bodies are beautiful! Truth.
